GA Highlands Wellness Center
Project type
Institutional
Date
2000
Location
Pickens County, GA
The Georgia Highlands Wellness Center was a collaboration between the Department of Community Affairs and the United States Department of Agriculture. Originally proposed as a block grant project, additional funding was necessary due to the magnitude of the project: four different service providers where to be housed in one facility, yet maintain their individual identity. The primary operator, Georgia Highlands, secured low interest funding through the USDA and that, along with donations from various civic groups and individuals, pushed the project through.
The direction here was to create a campus on heavily wooded property just south of the city of Jasper. The individual buildings maintain different program identities while providing outdoor “streets” for clients to use as an extension of interior spaces.
